As carmakers put together for the shift to EVs, the partnership between miners and carmakers is receiving serious. Carmakers are now on the lookout for what Bloomberg calls “intermediary roles” in mining, and they’re partnering up with mining giants to make confident they can get battery metals, like lithium, cobalt and nickel.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that GM and Ford will get started rolling into lithium mines with weighty machines, but it does signify that the two sectors are finding closer than at any time and that justifies some scrutiny.
